How your furniture is delivered

In most situations your order will be shipped via common carrier (commonly known as tractor trailer). When your furniture is ready to ship we will notify you via email that your furniture is on its way to you. In the shipment notification you will see instructions on how to setup the delivery date and time. We will provide you with all the details including contact information for the trucking company.

We will notify you that your order has shipped after it is picked up by the trucking company. The next destination for your order is your local terminal. Once your order arrives at that terminal you will need to call them to set up a scheduled delivery date and time. We will provide you with the phone number of your local terminal and the tracking number.

Scheduling your delivery

It is important that you call the terminal once we send you the tracking number and telephone number. Be sure to have your tracking number ready. Scheduled deliveries are available during normal business hours. Allow for plenty of time on the day of the delivery.

If you do not call to schedule the delivery, they will charge you a fee for calling to notify you and make the appointment. And if they attempt to deliver and no one is home, they will charge you a redelivery fee. So please be sure to call to avoid any additional charge. We are not responsible for these additional charges. You may use the tracking number to follow the shipment of your order on the trucking company's website. Extraordinary delivery requirements may create additional delivery fees.

At the time of delivery

Once the driver has arrived at your residence he will pull your order off of the truck. At this point the driver is no longer responsible for your order. This delivery method is curbside delivery. You will need to have someone assist you to carry all furniture up to its final destination. Drivers are not responsible for carrying the furniture beyond the curb at the end of the driveway.

Inspecting your delivery

While the driver is unloading the furniture off the truck; it is recommended that you begin inspecting all boxes for possible shipping damage. This is an excellent time to be meticulous and inspect all boxes very carefully. There are several signs to look for to determine shipping damage. The most obvious are visual signs including dented or crushed boxes. The second are audible signs such as sounds of broken glass. Listen for sounds of "rock / sand particles moving about" as the box is moved for stone table tops. Another example may be sounds of broken furniture rolling inside an unopened box.

How to report damaged or missing furniture

In the event that you have shipping damage or an item is missing contact Porches & Yards immediately. It is best to contact us immediately after the delivery to begin correcting any issues that came up. This may include replacing damaged items or locating a missing item. Usually these problems are handled fairly easily but we do need you to follow these procedures for faster service.

Signing the delivery receipt without notation of possible damage releases the trucking company from liability and the insurance will not pay so there is nothing that we can do. So please help us and yourself by inspecting boxes thoroughly and making notations when necessary. It will be your responsibility to file any claim with the carrier if you sign the delivery receipt without noting damages.

Your Delivery was Successful

If all of your boxes are in good shape and all are accounted for then it is time to sign the delivery receipt. Your signature is required for delivery. Once you sign the delivery receipt; you are stating the order is acceptable and there are no issues. This signature clears the Delivery Company and Porches & Yards, Inc from any shipping damage claims or missing items. At this point you will be responsible if there are shipping damage claims or items missing.
